Halloween Project...DIY-A Cauldron

Halloween,

One of our favorite times of year, and each year I think my middle daughter, Mykala, seems to out do herself and this year is no different.

She seen on Youtube how to make a cauldron by using this product called “Great Stuff” this can be found at Lowe’s for about 4 bucks and green Spray Paint, we thought that the Green Gloss Spray Paint was going to be too glossy for the lack of a better word, but I think it turned out great!
What the Great Stuff is its’ a sealant that expands when you spray it.
Really cool.

Inside the cauldron she added news paper to make it appear fuller because filling the entire cauldron you would need two cans.
This project required ONLY one!
Once she sprayed the great stuff she began adding her homemade body parts to the mix.
But you can barely see them.
But it contains, an eye ball and brain..
The spiders, worms, and other creepy crawls can be purchased at the Dollar Tree!

We also have head stones outside…
She made most the items using flour and salt, which is home-made Play-Doh.

She baked them, for about 20 minutes
This made them hard on the outside yet soft when you press down on them.
It’s really gross!
She even has maggots coming out of a foot she made…

We are still not finished with the yard, her and my husband are creating Vampire Dairies characters for the front yard…
Yes, she is a Vampires Dairies FANATIC!!

Peace,
Tomingo

Have a great day!!

What is Hypertufa...DIY project

Hypertufa (pronounced hyper-toofa) is a man-made stone made from various aggregates bonded together with Portland cement. It's perfect for making long lasting garden ornaments such as pots, troughs, bird baths, rocks, stepping stones or even totem poles.
It looks like rock, can be cast into almost any shape, is environmentally friendly, very lightweight and can withstand harsh weather conditions. It is also fairly easy and fun to make.
The hypertufa creations are lighter in weight than concrete and have an ancient look about them, as if they had been sitting outside for the past couple of centuries. They sustain the growth of surface mosses and lichens further adding to their natural appeal and are very plant friendly. They have porous walls that act as a reservoir for water which the plants can use during dry spells. Porous walls also allow for easy passage of air to the root systems.
It can withstand harsh winters, at least down to -30C, so no need to bring them in for the winter. Unless off course you are living in Siberia.
Hypertufa was created to be used as an inexpensive replacement for the natural volcanic rock called Tufa. Tufa was used for many things - it was hollowed out and carved unto coffins, sinks, bath tubs, animal troughs and used for planters by English gardeners. Natural tufa rock was quite popular among gardeners in England before it became hard to find.
This lead to its development. It comes from the Latin word hyper (over, excessively) and tufus (volcanic rock that is porous and crumbly). When hyper and tufa are put together we get "something more than tufa" or "fake tufa rock".
So what makes Hypertufa better for your garden than other planting containers and decorations?
Here are some answers:
  • Lighter than concrete
  • Won't crack like plastic, clay and ceramic
  • Can withstand harsh weather conditions (down to -30C)
  • Last for many years
  • Retains moisture, so plants thrive even with less frequent watering
  • Drains well
  • Looks great
  • Plants love them
  • You can make them at home and have fun while you are at it!

Happy Fourth Of July...

Good Day to everyone.

We are busy, busy, busy packing up, finding more stags in the closing process, this time it was not us it the lack of communication the lender has with the buyer. UGH!!
Its frustrating as hell to have one date set to move in, just for them to change the date again.
On top of that, we have a family reunion in 3 weeks with no furniture for family to sit on. Because of the lenders…but at any rate, things are moving along slowly but surely. Just needed to vent!!

Enjoy your Fourth of July…and here a bit of
Black History for the Fourth of July…

"WHAT TO THE AMERICAN SLAVE IS YOUR FOURTH OF JULY"
Frederick Douglass
1818-1895

What, to the American slave, is your Fourth of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciation of tyrants, brass-fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are, to Him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy-a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of the United States at this very hour….more

Sure things have changed since these words were spoken almost 234 years ago…

However, I would like to leave with these famous words::

"Those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it."
George Santayana

Have a safe and Happy Fourth of July!!
