I love being NORMAL!!

I was recently talking to a friend of mine who has recently decided to transition from relax to natural. She has been asking me questions and she has voiced that she hopes she has the patience to keep up with the protective styles. So she can stay on this natural journey.

And I can so relate to her concerns. I know for me in the beginning, the first 6 months, were the pits; I could picture how my hair was going to look even in the beginning. I would twist; braid and roller set every chance I could. Some of the styles came out wonderful and some not so good. For the first four months it seemed as if my hair would never grow long enough, so that I could sport some of the cutest styles.

I was a You Tube FANATIC!!

From PrettyDimples to BlackOnyxx I was religiously watching You Tube videos. And I learned a great deal from them. So thank you ladies!!

Eighteen months ago; I decided to do “the big chop” and at the time I decided to cut my hair off, I didn’t realize how huge the natural hair community was.

Just as there are so many of us, women of color, with different shades of bronze, browns and chestnuts, there are also many textures of hair for loose curls to springy coils.

We represent it all.

Some of what I have learned about my community are the many different reasons, we decide to go natural, either we are tired of relaxing our hair or we are on a spiritual journey what ever the decision was; its comforting knowing someone else has the same concerns, worries and questions. And that there was a place to go to get answers to some of the questions I had.

This journey has taking me on different paths, and I appreciate each detour, road block, and sometimes dead end.

My motto is. “It would not be a journey without some detours.”

So in saying all this, it feels good to be able to offer someone else some advice, and encouragement.

Therefore, they too can appreciate the beauty of ‘being normal’.

Hair Updates...Mini Protective Style

well a small update...

i dyed my hair last month orange, the orange looked more copper than orange so i dyed it burgundy/ with red booster....Yeah I do that only once a year!!

i love the color but seen so many with red headed naturals...(grinds my gears)

so i dyed my hair once again this time black in the middle...(ssh to cover the gray)

and did a peek-a-boo in the front...I like it...

right now i have  a mini-protective style..

a two-strand twist out coated in Castor Oil and other oils to keep it moisturized for a few...

Hair UPDATE...SO MUCH GROWTH!!!

hair update...i was looking back at some of my blog pictures and thought...wow
how much and fast my hair has grown...this pictures is just 5 months apart...

I GOT AFRICAN IN ME..THATS WHY MY HAIR WONT GROW...WTF???

I was inspired by a video from a NON-natural lady who was saying because she has staight AFRICAN hair ..that is the reason her hair is not growing...FAIL...ppl do your history...having African hair is not why your hair is not growing...these pictures represent that...These women are 1 generations AFRICAN...and they all have long hair...beautifull...learn your history and stop acting the donkey!!!

The red that is in their hair is a clay they use to protect their tresses from the sun!!

So they also do protective hair styles...

Eco Styling Gel My review

Well, here is my second review of Eco Styling Gel. I used this once before when my hair was a bit shorter. And it did turn out like I hoped it would. So now that my hair is a lot longer I decided to re try this product and its not so bad.

 It has been about an hour since I washed and applied the Eco Styling Gel and my hair is so thick it will be awhile before it is totally dry.

However, the gel does define my curls they are loose and shaky. 

My husband was laughing at me because I was outside shaking my hair like a rock star!

I was sitting in the heat outside to allow my hair to dry naturally...its about 1/3 dry!

Tomorrow I will post more pictures when it is totally dry.

Mango Illipe Butter Creme~Natural Hair Condition

My Mango Illipe Butter Creme

I love trying new things and I have been experimenting with exotic butters such as Mango and Illipe Butters. Both have some wonderful properties and since they are natural it’s good for your hair as well as your skin.

And with the winter months ahead we naturals will need some added moisture to our hair to keep it healthy and these butters help keep hair moisturized which reduces breakage.

Illipe Nuts come from a tree that is native to Southeast Asia and Borneo. Illipe butter has long lasting moisturizing attributes, it is most known for its skin softening qualities, it consistency is resembles that of coco butter; however, it has a higher melting point (takes longer to melt). Illipe butter Refined has a slight earthy nutty smell that can be masked by using, lavender scents.

Mango butter refined is a soft, lumpy, solid butter…even though this butter comes for the kernels of the mango tree the butter I purchase did not have a smell. Despite the lumpy grainy texture that Mango butter has it melts instantly on the skin.

 This is IIipe Butter

Mango Butter

How I make my Mango Illipe Butter

½ cup Illipe Butter (refined)

½ cup Mango Butter (refined)

1 tsp of olive oil

2 or 3 drops of Essential Oil (please research the oils before using on your skin)

Put hot water into medal bowl…

Place the plastic bowl into the water with the Illipe and Mango butter inside and stir until it all melts. Sit into the refrigerator for about an hour and it turns solid.

(Please do not microwave any of your butters)

That’s it!

It feels great.

This butter is very hard and takes longer to melt than Mango Butter.








This is the Mango Butter as you can see it has a griddy texture. However it melts instantly once it makes contact with your skin.

Once it becomes solid the texture of the Mango Butter will come through so if you don’t like the grit you may not want to use the Mango butter. However if you do, just remember that you must allow the butter to melt into the palms of your hands completely to avoid the dandruff look…
